My E30 is pretty crappy, I got burned on it because I have this problem where I believe what people say. Anyway, looking for a car I can drive anywhere, and needs little maintenance. My customer cars and projects get all my time. Doesn't need to be a BMW. $3-4 thousand dollar range. Rear wheel drive would be nice, but... really limits the choices. Minimum of high 20's for gas mileage.

My 87 E30 325E will be for sale in the near future, Automatic, lots of dents, full of dog hair, it's a creampuff!

ETA??
If you mean the e30, it just runs "funny", I've checked everything, I don't get it. It's old, 250,000 miles probably, it burns oil, about the only thing I haven't replaced is the fuel pump and all the associated hoses.

Sorry, eta is the nickname for a 325e. I own one, I agree it is a pain in the a%$ to get it to run great. I blame the engine management being so embryonic. Burning oil is something else though, sorry to hear that.

Anyways, I'll keep an eye out.

I'm having trouble wrapping my brain around paying 3-5 k for something with 200K miles, no matter what kind of car. I guess I am just way out of touch with what things cost.

I would pick a well maintained 500k mile car over a neglected 50k mile car every time :)

I had talked myself into getting an 87 Mercedes diesel, but I missed it. Word is those things will go a million miles. And no electronics.
The search continues.

So, it sucks to be a giant. I found a nice E30, but, I don't fit in a 4 door. Drove a sweet Volvo wagon, rear wheel drive, not enough headroom.
Still looking.

Update.
I bought a Crown Vic police car. That thing is awesome.
drove back and forth to eastern Montana this summer with the cruise control at 83, got 21 mpg.
Not even trying to drive it this winter.
Bought a Jeep Cherokee, and continue to drive the E30. I barely hit a ice berm, and had to remove the air dam because it pushed in to where it rubbed on the tire.
I feel sorry for this little car. Someone should make it a chump car.
