Years ago, I read an article that suggested putting grease in light bulb sockets. I tried it, and it was a disaster. On my E30, I had a turn signal that was intermittent, I had to keep wiggling it, very annoying. I put some anti seize, which has nickel in it, on the connection. It's worked ever since!

Di-Electric grease is different than axle grease etc...

Putting regular 'grease' in your connections would be a terrible plan...putting some di-electric grease would make for wiggle free bulbs...I'm sure the stuff you used did the trick...but next time use the grease specifically designed to do what you want.

I'm familiar with dialectric grease, my experience with it has been that it serves no purpose. If I am concerned about corrosion I use Napa Battery terminal spray.
I think that the ant seize might actually transmit current, where dialectric does not.
Anyway, it worked for me.
